Who We Are

The Need

With over 25 years of experience in special education, including 5 years in inclusive educational settings, I’ve seen firsthand that school settings often do not have the time, staffing capacity, or resources to fully support the development of practical life skills that teens need to become independent and self-sufficient young adults. While academic instruction is prioritized, essential daily living skills such as meal preparation, decision-making, time management, communication, and working collaboratively with peers—are frequently limited or not addressed in meaningful, real-world ways.

As a result, many teens miss out on structured opportunities to practice independence in supportive environments where they can safely build confidence, problem-solve, and experience a sense of belonging with others their age.

  The Answer

(Program Description)

This program is designed to fill that gap by helping teens develop confidence, self-sufficiency, and practical daily living skills through hands-on, guided experiences focused on preparing simple, nutritious meals. Participants actively engage in real-life tasks that foster independence while learning how to plan, prepare, and share food in a safe, structured setting.

Beyond cooking and meal preparation, teens strengthen essential life skills such as decision-making, teamwork, communication, flexibility, and self-advocacy.

The program also emphasizes peer connection, giving participants a meaningful opportunity to build friendships and experience belonging in a supportive community.

Through consistent practice in a guided environment, teens are empowered to translate these skills into greater independence and confidence in their everyday lives.
